:icongawrilaghul:: Welcome to my humble show, :iconmichaelelliottfurr:!
Do you enjoy being here? :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr::
I believe I do. Rather be here than there.

:icongawrilaghul:: How would you feel THERE?

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Most likely with my fingers. Thats how im feeling here, at least.

:icongawrilaghul:: Do you think feeling things is important?

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: No, I wouldnt say its important to feel things. Id almost be more likely to say its more important to not feel things. Or, what I mean is.... Acknowledge feelings but never let them dictate your destiny... But I dont really believe in destiny either. Im kind of an absurdist nihilist. I acknowledge the fact that we exist and "feel things" to reach the ultimate conclusion that is reuniting with the void. But at the same time, I dont let that dictate my fun, even though I know its true. We live in an absurd world. Its hard not to have fun! So, sure, feeling things can be important at times and unimportant at others or it can be both at the same time as well! Sorry, trying to focus here...

:icongawrilaghul:: What makes an absurdist nihilist different from a regular nihilist?

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Im not fully aware of the difference.. Only that its there. Nihilism doesn't really offer an answer. But, for me personally, absurdism is the balancing key. But I change my views as often as clothing so I may be Hindu next week.

:icongawrilaghul:: With that said, tell us a bit more about THESE pieces of yours, please!

:thumb583626650:   :thumb586659941:   :thumb560501507:   :thumb570958690:

:iconmichaelelliottfurr::
The first one I painted with no thought about what would happen. I started with the big patch of Tan in the top right and then put the facial outline, then the word bubbles... And let it kinda decide itself from there.
The second one, I wanted to do a flat piece that incorporated a bunch of patterns. So no deep meaning here either...
The third started as an indoor portrait but half way through I had an urge to paint hopscotch, so I did. No deep meaning there, though I did come up with a meaning afterwards. But that hardly counts...
The fourth was another meaningless jumble of whatever in the shape of a face...
To be honest, all of that art is no good. Its the stuff I started painting about 2 weeks ago that have any kind of meaning at all.

:icongawrilaghul:: Define "meaning", please! :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Nothing within those paintings is trying to convey any message in this particular instance. As for the word itself, it depends on the context in the way it is defined. It is a highly subjective word.

:icongawrilaghul:: Describe what makes your subjectivity your subjectivity then, please! :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: My perspective. Are you beating around the bush? What are you trying to ultimately get at? Semantics are fun but worthless ;) Human language was developed by... Er.... Humans. And Id say it is a direct reflection of human thought and logic. We are pretty limited in our capacity for understanding concepts such as infinity and nothingness. So are logic is fundamentally flawed. It's "circular". And thats why discussions about meaning and perspective devolve fairly quickly. But thats just my opinion, I guess. Haha. And I misspelled "our" as "are", so what do I really know? ;)

:icongawrilaghul:: Alright, so I do get that "absurdist nihilist" thing now, I guess...

I was basically asking why you are what you are.

But it's ok if you don't know, or don't wanna answer.

Do you wanna answer? :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Oh, why I am what I am? Yeah, I can answer THAT! Haha

Cuz God made me who I am. And then my whole life experience has kinda sculpted me into what I am today! To quote a famous sailor, "I yam wud I yam!"  :icondancekittyplz:

:icongawrilaghul:: Do I have to BASH YOU before I get some specific life experiences, important for that? :rage:

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: If i were to list all my life experiences it would take nearly 33 years. Probably more as I would have to describe every detail. Haha. Heres a good one... One time I got fired from Home Depot because I got caught making prank phone calls to them... On the clock... From my cell phone in the outside gardening section.

Hmmm, once I went to a catholic church and didnt realize that the little bird bath in the lobby isnt in fact a bird bath or a place to wash your hands. But i learned pretty quickly.
I once thought it would be funny to make fun of a japanese kid in middle school and he promptly punched me in the stomach. He caught me so off guard, i layed in the hallway for a while. We BOTH got in school suspension.

:icongawrilaghul:: Personally, I think that's quite a cool selection.

Tell us more about how and what you learned in the catholic church, please! :nod::thumbsup:

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: I had went on a
midnight mass (christmas service) with my then girlfriend. I proceeded to wash my hands off in the "bird bath" and she was like "No, Michael!" Amidst glares from the pharisees. Then during the mass, the priest really starting burning that incense. It was out of control and got so bad I could no longer see the priest which caused me to laugh out loud amidst stares from the pharisees once more. I learned in catholic church, there are a billion rules. And you better follow them or they may just EXCOMMUNICATE YOU!!! DA DA DUUUM!!!!!
But for real. Im sure the people were like "Ugh, every mass someone brings in the riffraff..."
It was a fun night. Besides the glares from the pharisees and dozens of idols crucified all over the sanctuary.

:icongawrilaghul:: :thumb381822321: ...? :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Yeah, I used to care about politics when I believed I lived in a democracy. I now understand I live in a false democracy that is actually closer to totalitarianism in popular culture and government.

I have no faith in politicians or anyone of the sort at this stage of society. Trying to make everyone equal results in everyone being held back to the level of the lowest common denominator. Even the ones it claims to benefit suffer, and sometimes they suffer the worst.

:icongawrilaghul:: What would be your comment on POPULAR CULTURE?

Also, do you think POPULAR CULTURE is possible?

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Popular culture = lowest common denominator.

Its very possible because the world is full of ignorant people.

:icongawrilaghul:: What is your opinion about BEING INTERVIEWED? :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Ive enjoyed it immensely. Ive learned things about myself. Its cool to have others provide the means of introspection! :)

:icongawrilaghul:: Comment on BEING INTERVIEWED by means of just ONE more of your many, left, great, but here unfeatured deviations, please! :nod::thumbsup:

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: :thumb402975463:

:icongawrilaghul:: Do you have any last words left, for our humble audience? :)

:iconmichaelelliottfurr:: Im gonna keep it strictly art advice... (Itd be a book if i gave life advice)

When making art, do what feels natural to you. Dont get discouraged when your limitations become apparent. Those limitations will eventually become your strengths with practice.
I know that might sound deep but its not. Theres no magic key that will unlock your skill. It comes with practice.
Dont worry about your "style"! They say all good artists should have a distinguished "style". If you search for it, you probably wont find it. They dont mention that a "style" is actually who you are. And you wont find who you are without experimentation. Experiment!!!! Try all the genres! Emulate your favorite artists... Try a style you dont like... Just go ape on a blank canvas with no goal...
After time, you will learn so much and begin using certain strokes, shapes, colors more than others. This is your "style". Also note, your style may evolve (and it really should). JUST DO WHAT FEELS NATURAL!
Most importantly, listen to advice from artists you respect. Ive been painting for 5 years. I used to get advice and would almost take it personal like an attack on me. I would fight the advice. It would make me mad. Sometimes, other eyes can see what you dont. On the other hand, ignore the advice that is non constructive. After time youll be able to distinguish. Good advice- "Id work on your color and shading. Its weak."
Bad advice- "you suck at painting faces. They look all wonky."
Finally, grow with others but be yourself. When working with a good art buddy you will inevitably begin to emulate them and they will emulate you. Fight this. JUST DO WHAT IS NATURAL!!!
And dont paint what sells all the time.
Ill leave you with this quote by Picasso
"Success is dangerous. One begins to copy oneself, and to copy oneself is more dangerous than to copy others. It leads to sterility." Pablo Picasso
I love you all!!!!
And i want to thank you for this opportunity to share my voice!!!!

:icongawrilaghul::
